A - Yes we have kits available for all three of our chairs - see Spares and Locator List on the Downloads page for price and codes.

Q - Do all three chairs (Medical/Commercial/Max) take the same brake kits?

Q - The brakes are making a clanging sound as if the brake is not fully disengaged. (A clicking noise)
It appears that the brake bar doesn't clear the wheel spoke even when the handle is completely clasped. What do we do?
A - Brakes do need adjusting time to time both upper and lower. Please visit the 'Monthly Maintenance Manual' on our staxi ® website. There is a step by step video showing exactly how to adjust the brakes. This should solve the problem. If not, please contact Wow Care on Toll Free Phone: 1-866-969-1463 or 1-866-WOW-1463 or email: Wow-Care@staxi.com

Q - The brakes are sticking and will not apply when released will I need new Upper/Lower Brake Kits?
A - Not at first. The brakes first probably need just adjusting. Please look at the Monthly Maintenance Schedule on our staxi ® Website under 'Downloads' then 'Videos'

Castors

Q - Do the Castor Kits St1511 (Medical and ST1510 Commercial and Max) come with the fittings?
A - The kits contain all small parts required however a staxi ® Castor Wrench will need to be purchased ST0106.

Q - Do we provide a wrench to remove the castor?
A - When a castor, part ST1511 (Medical Only) or ST1510 (Commercial and Max only) is sent out, it must be accompanied by 1 staxi ® Wrench, ST0106, which must be purchased from us to remove/fit the Castors. ($15.00 USD / $15.00 CAD or £9.00 GBP)

Q - Will any Castor Kit fit any Chair (Medical/Commercial/Max)?
A - No - The kit for the Medical chair (ST1511) will not fit the Commercial and Max. There is a separate kit for Commercial and Max (ST1510) which will not fit the Medical chair. Please see/refer to the Spares and Locator List to confirm codes and pricing.

Q - Does the Front Castor Kit for the Medical Chair contain both Left and Right Castors?
A - No - each Castor Kit ST1511 (Medical) is sold as one castor and will require a staxi ® Castor Wrench for fitting (ST0106).

Q - Does the Front Castor Kit for the Commercial and Max Chairs contain both Left and Right Castors?
A - No - each Castor kit ST1510 (Commercial and Max) is sold as one Castor and will require a staxi ® Castor wrench for fitting ST0106

Q - I have purchased one replacement front Castor for my staxi ® Chair and it is a different size from the existing one which is making the chair lopsided - why is this happening and what can I do to fix this?
A - Your inquiry sounds as if it is about an older chair with older Castor designs. The older design is a different size to the newer ones so in this case you would always need to replace both Castors to make sure they are even.
Refer to customer services as we need to ascertain whether the castors are 'Tente' or 'Medcastor'

Q - My Chair is veering to one side - what can I do?
A - This could be simple Brake Adjustment, refer the customer to the 'Monthly Maintenance Schedule' on our Staxi Website under 'Downloads' then 'Videos'. If this does not correct the problem please contact Wow Care on Toll Free Phone: 1-866-969-1463 or 1-866-WOW-1463 or email: Wow-Care@staxi.com

Q - I need to replace a castor and I am unable to get the Castors off? There seems to be too much Thread Locker on them - what can we do to get them off?
A - Step 1: Take out the locking set screws - important
Step 2: Heat the caster stem area where it fits into the chair. Use an industrial strength hot gun (like a hair dryer) or a torch. Care must be taken with anything with a flame so as to not burn the paint. This should loosen the thread locker. If it doesn't (don't forget that we do not want these castors to come off in use so we err on too much thread locker). If it doesn't loosen the thread locker then the only way is to break the plastic at the top of the castor to expose the metal stem. This can be done with a chisel, a hefty flat screwdriver, or use a grinder. Then a vice grip or similar can be used.
This is not a simple process - because we don't want these to come off easily. Changing castors is quite rare, please contact Wow Care for further advise on Toll Free Phone: 1-866-969-1463 or 1-866-WOW-1463 or email: Wow-Care@staxi.com

Q - Are there wheels suitable for going outside that I can buy?
A - The wheels that are fitted onto the staxi ® chairs are set to allow the 4 to 1 weight distribution that the staxi chair provides. This means that the wheels are provided with the chair are the correct ones to use all the time and if they need to be replaced you can order them from staxi ® but no other wheels would work correctly on the chair.

IV/ IVAC Telescoping Pole

Q - What is the weight bearing capacity of the IV/ IVAC Telescoping Pole?
A - The weight bearing capacity of the IV/ IVAC Telescoping Pole is 25lbs (11kgs)

Elevating Leg Rests

Q – Is there a video demonstration of the ELR?
A – Yes click here to view

Q – How do I operate the ELR?
A – There is a video demonstration which shows you how to operate the ELR click here to view

Q - Are the Elevating Leg Rests (ELR) sold as a pair?
A - Yes - they are only sold as a pair (ST095)

Q - Can ELR Kits be fitted to all of our chairs?
A - No - ELR kits may only be fitted to the Medical and Max chairs - NOT Commercial/Airport.

Q - Do the ELR kits come with the fittings included?
A - Yes - All fittings are included in the kit

Q - Do the ELR kits come with fitting instructions?
A - All accessories have fitting instructions which are available on our staxi ® Website in the 'Parts Info' section under 'Accessories Manual'

Q - Will the staxi ® nest when they have ELR Kits fitted?
A - Yes - as long as the ELR's are retracted.

Q - Under what circumstances can an ELR hinder the operation of the wheel?
A - It could be installed incorrectly so that when it's on the chair it can stop the wheel.
The ELR is a tight fit, because it must be retractable when not needed so the staxi ® can nest.
The Installation is important, especially making sure that the clamps are as high on the chair frame as possible.
If the clamps are even as little as 1/4 inch too low the ELR will touch the front casters.
The facility's staff can try tightening the clamps and this should work fine, but first you will need to move the ELRs back up the frame until they clear the front wheels. We recommend 1/4 to ? inch below the cross bar at the top where the seat is fixed to the chair.
Please check the Accessories Manual on our staxi ® Website www.staxi.com, the information is on pages 17 to 21.

Footrests

Q - Footrests keep sliding and this may cause tripping. Does the customer need new ones or is there something we can do?
A - Four compression washers have been added to the new footrest kit.
These washers constantly apply pressure so they keep tension on footrests.
Therefore a new kit would solve the issue - but the customer still needs to adjust/maintain.
Please check the Service Parts manual in downloads on our website.

Q - The footrests keep falling down when they are put upright - what can we do?
A - A minor adjustment can be made to tighten the footrests - please check the 'Monthly Maintenance Manual'

Q - Will Footrest Kit ST1300 fit all chairs, Medical, Commercial and Max?
A - There are three separate Footrest Kits for all three chairs mentioned
- ST1300 Foot Rest Kit (Dipped) Left and Right - MEDICAL
- ST1301 Foot Rest Kit (Dipped) Left and Right - MAX
- ST1302 Main Foot Rest Kit - COMMERCIAL

Nesting Issues

Q - Why don't staxi ® chairs nest as they should?
A - There are a number of reasons why this might happen:
- Are they all the same chair? i.e. Have airport been sent out in mistake or vice versa
Airport Chairs will not stack into Medical and Medical will not stack into Airport.
- Has the customer removed all of the shipping packing? If not, it can hinder stacking.
- Are the Seat Assemblies fitted correctly? If they are not they may hinder stacking.
- Do the chairs have ELR's fitted? If so they need to be retracted to enable to staxi ® to nest together.
We would urge all of our customers both old and new to go through the 'Pre-Inspection Checklist' when they receive their chairs as a simple adjustment may solve this problem. Refer the customer to our staxi ® website to view both the 'Pre Inspection Checklist' and the 'Monthly Maintenance Manual'
The chairs are "stacked" (nested) together during transport - in a container, stacked again in the warehouse, and stacked in trailer... and stacked many times during the production process.
staxi ® will always take a little effort to stack.
If the problem can't be solved by checking the above then refer to the Customer Care Team.

Q - How much space does a series of nested staxi ® chairs require?
A - When nested the staxi ® chair consumes 11 inches of floor space.

Q - How many staxi ® chairs can you nest at the stand?
A - You can nest 6 staxi ® chairs at a standard shelter and 12 staxi ® chairs at a large shelter stand.

Seat Assemblies/Seat Backs

Q -The Base of the Seat isn't resting on the frame of the staxi ® - do I need a replacement.
A - Not at first - there is a simple adjustment that can be made to correct this - please check the Service Parts Manual on our Staxi website for instructions. If you have further problems please contact Wow Care on Toll Free Phone: 1-866-969-1463 or 1-866-WOW-1463 or email: Wow-Care@staxi.com

Q - Will the Seat Assembly Kit ST1650 fit all of our chairs, Medical, Commercial and Max?
A - The Seat Assembly ST1650 will fit both the Medical and Commercial Chairs. It will not fit the Max. A separate kit is needed ST1655 owing to the seat size difference.

Q -Do the Seat Assemblies ST1650 come with instructions?
A - Yes - and these instructions can be found in our 'Service Parts Manual'

A - No - a new Seat Assembly will need to be purchased (or supplied if the chair is still under warranty)

Q - Can a new Seat Back be purchased?
A - Yes - we can supply the wire Seat Back ST1600

Q - Will the Seat Back Kit ST1600 fit all of our chairs Medical, Commercial and Max?
A - The Seat Back Kit ST1600 will fit our Medical and Commercial chairs however a different Seat Back Kit ST1603 will need to be purchased to fit the Max chair owing to the chair width difference.

Q - The weld on the Seat Back has come loose - can this be fixed?
A - No - a new Seat Back Kit needs to be purchased (or supplied if the chair is still under warranty)

Q - What is the warranty on the wire seat and how do I install it?
A - Our seats are made to install and remove. Instructions are available on our staxi ® website in the 'Service Parts Manual'. The Seat Assembly is covered as part of the chair for 3 years in the rare case it may break.

Q - It what case would a seat Assembly or Seat Back wear too fast under a year or earlier?
A - This can be due to sometimes issue of burrs (like notches or sharp kind of thorn type of protrusions on seat assembly, rare but happens, like think of an ingrown nail on a thumb that sticks out, a "roughness"):
We recommend that the maintenance team check the seats (under the cushions-the wire assemblies) for any bends/burrs.
NB Chairs which were made early 2011 may have issues with burrs.
It is not common in chairs made at any other time. We would need serial numbers to check this then refer to Customer Care Department.

Q - How do you install the cushion cover?
A - To install the cushion please click here to download the instructions

Touch Up Paint

Q - Do you send touch up paint?
A - Unfortunately no we do not send out touch up paint. It is against our safety regulations.

Red or Silver would have to be matched locally near their facility at a hardware store.

General Questions

Q – What is the length of the seatbelt for the staxi ®?
A – ST091 Regular Seat belt will fit waist dimensions from 25 to 58 inches (63cm to 150cm)
ST085 MAX Seat Belt will fit waist dimensions from 42 to 75 inches (105cm to 190cm)

Q - Are these staxi ® chairs sold for personal use?
A - staxi ® was designed specifically for institutional use only, for example hospitals, airports etc, where issues such as safety, wheelchair theft and missing parts are a great concern. staxi ® is specifically designed not to fold and the patient seated in the chair cannot push themselves. Therefore we only offer staxi ® for institutional use.

Q - What is unique about the staxi ® wheelchair?
A - Manual wheelchair manufacturer, staxi ®, makes the most innovative wheelchairs and accessories in the industry today - ideal as an airport wheelchair, stackable wheelchair, hospital wheelchair for patient transportation, and wheelchair rentals for shopping malls.

Q - Are your staxi ® wheelchairs ergonomically correct?
A - Our wheelchairs are ergonomically correct. In fact, that is one of the top priorities in the design of our manual wheelchairs that serve a wide range of purposes - stackable wheelchairs, nesting wheelchairs, commercial wheelchairs, industrial wheelchairs, institutional wheelchairs, hospital wheelchairs, coin return wheelchairs, and wheelchair rentals for airports and shopping malls.

Q - What wheelchair accessories does staxi ® offer?
A - Manual wheelchair accessories available through staxi ® - one of the world's leading wheelchair manufacturers - include a wide range of options for our weather resistant stacking wheelchairs, nesting wheelchairs, airport wheelchairs, hospital wheelchairs for patient transportation and wheelchair rentals for shopping malls.

Q - Where can the staxi ® manual wheelchair be used?
A - Our manual wheelchair can be used anywhere frequented by patrons or patients. The staxi ® heavy duty wheelchair is an all-purpose nesting wheelchair design ideal as a stackable rental wheelchair, coin return wheelchair, airport wheelchair, pediatric wheelchair or hospital wheelchair for patient transportation.

Q - Is the staxi safe enough for hospital patient transportation?
A - Hospital patient transportation is critical, requiring the safest of patient transporter solutions, and our manual wheelchair is most certainly among them. So although this stackable wheelchair is popular as an airport wheelchair and for wheelchair rentals in shopping malls, the staxi ® is the ideal way to transport a patient in a wheelchair, and safe enough as a pediatric wheelchair as well.

Q - How does the staxi make transporting patients easier?
A - Transporting patients can be challenging, as the typical hospital wheelchair lacks smart design. The staxi ® manual wheelchair is different, making patient transportation easier and safer too. Durable, heavy duty and weather resistant, the staxi ® is ideal as an institutional wheelchair, industrial wheelchair, commercial wheelchair, pediatric wheelchair, airport wheelchair and as wheelchair rentals in shopping malls.

Q - Why is the staxi ® ideal as a hospital wheelchair?
A - Our hospital wheelchair is ideal for patient transportation. In fact, the staxi ® manual wheelchair is what you might call a heavy duty "wheelchair alternative" to outdated designs of the past. From an airport wheelchair to pediatric wheelchairs to wheelchair rentals for shopping malls, these stackable wheelchairs - or "nesting wheelchairs" - come with considerable benefits.

Q - What makes your stackable wheelchairs theft-resistant?
A - Stackable wheelchairs are susceptible to theft, so the staxi ® manual wheelchair incorporates theft-resistant features into the design of our hospital wheelchair, airport wheelchair, pediatric wheelchairs and wheelchair rentals at shopping malls. Stacking wheelchairs - or "nesting wheelchairs" - have too many benefits for the possibility of theft to deter the use of this heavy duty wheelchair and its wheelchair accessories.

Q - Why is the staxi ® ideal as a manual wheelchair rental?
A - Manual wheelchair rentals are essential to so many people who have mobility needs, yet those needs are often unmet because the only rental wheelchairs available are not user friendly. They're hard to push, they're uncomfortable or they're falling apart. That's why staxi ® takes such pride in our heavy duty wheelchair options - weather resistant wheelchair designs ideal as a commercial wheelchair, industrial wheelchair or airport wheelchair. The same may be said of the staxi ® as a hospital wheelchair too.

Q - Why is the staxi ® ideal as an airport wheelchair?
A - Airport wheelchairs should be as durable as they are easy to use. Unfortunately, that is rarely the case - unless it's a staxi ® heavy duty wheelchair. This innovative manual wheelchair design is ideal as a stackable wheelchair, or "nesting wheelchair," in just about any capacity - a weather resistant wheelchair also perfect for use as a hospital wheelchair, pediatric wheelchair, rental wheelchair, coin return wheelchair and more.

Q - Why are staxi ® chairs rarely stolen?
A - staxi ® chairs are not attractive targets of theft because they cannot be self-propelled, cannot be collapsed and are conspicuous. They are more easily pushed than wheelchairs and have a large under-seat storage for luggage or purchases. staxi ® chairs stay put when attendants don't - dual brakes instantly engage if the attendant releases their grip.

"... these chairs are virtually theft-proof for a number of reasons...and when staff can choose between a staxi ® or a wheelchair, they choose a staxi ® every time."

Q - Why do staxi ® chairs require less time being gathered than wheelchairs?
A - staxi ® chairs seem to "return to their nest all by themselves". If fitted with grocery-buggy style coin operated systems at their visually appealing, modern looking and highly visible "staxi ® Stands," this option reduces abandonment and the gathering effort. Three to 13-unit staxi ®Stands are available.

Even without the stand, each nested staxi ® requires only 11 inches of floor space!

"The staxi ® wheelchair has been a super addition to the Atlanta Delta operation. It is very safe and reliable...staxi ® has bent over backwards to make us happy"

Q - How much space does a series of nested staxi ® chairs require?
A - When nested, a staxi ® consumes a mere 11 inches of floor space and the
staxi ® coin return option reduces gathering effort and clutter.

Q - What makes a staxi ® construction better than a wheelchair?
A - The bent steel frame has a fewer number of welds/breakage points and the components are of the highest quality. Also, we use automotive grade paint. The arm and footrests swivel but are not removable.

Q - How is getting in and out of a staxi ® different than a wheelchair?
A - The passenger approaches the staxi ® from either side with the nearest armrest tilted upwards, sits down, rotates their legs into a forward position and reclines comfortably into the ergonomic seat. The armrest is then lowered and the brakes cannot disengage until the attendant is in position. This process is particularly expedient for car transfers.

Q - Can a staxi ® carry more weight than a wheelchair?
A - staxi ® chairs are TOUGH - 500 and 1,000-pound capacity models

staxi ® chairs are FUN - cushions can feature color printing, frames are available in 4 colors and custom nameplates are available

Q - Is the experience of riding in a staxi ® different than riding in a wheelchair?
A - staxi ® chairs encourage outings whereas wheelchairs discourage them. With a higher seating position than a traditional wheelchair, a staxi ® encourages more pleasant human contact. Additionally, a modern staxi ® does not look as "ominous" as a traditional wheelchair. This suggests that the passenger's mobility challenge is potentially temporary and this in turn also encourages more relaxed communication with strangers.

The passenger feels secure knowing that the dual interconnected brakes will instantly engage if the attendant lets go, takes pleasure from the fact that their attendant can more easily push and turn their staxi ® than a wheelchair, and feels helpful for having chosen a transport device with a storage area that can be shared.

Since the armrests hinge upwards, a staxi ® passenger can be moved right up to a restaurant or meeting table beside everybody else.

Q - What is the purpose of the "failsafe" braking method and how is it different than a wheelchair?
A - Failsafe dual brakes (both engage instantly when the attendant lets go) make the staxi ® chair the safest transport method for outdoor pathways of varying elevation (not to mention their weather resistance.) For the same reason, airports and airlines discover that staxi ® are safer than wheelchairs on ramps generally, but even more so while reversing downhill, with the attendant walking backwards. Strong anti-tip bars were added specifically to the staxi ® chair for this purpose.

Q - What helpful accessories can be added to staxi ®?
A - Primarily through word of mouth, thousands of facilities in North America and Europe use staxi ® stackable wheelchairs as a patient transport option; sometimes positioning it as a "rentable wheelchair." staxi ® chairs are the leading choice for non-self-propelled use and accessories such as seat belts and holders for intravenous poles, oxygen tanks and infusion pumps are available.

Facilities benefit by designating a certain color of staxi ® for each department.

Q - How does a staxi ® actually promote visits to a facility?
A - staxi ® chairs' slightly reclined seats make them more comfortable for extended use than common wheelchairs. Because visitors of nursing homes are often elderly themselves, they are encouraged by the fact that the brakes will be automatically applied if they accidentally release their grip. This promotes active visitations and visiting is meant to be fun!

"...the staxi ® is unbelievably easy to use and maneuver. Thank you for such a great product. It has made our appointments less stressful."
